Principal Petty's Weekly Update: 02/24/2025

This is Marcus Petty, Principal of James Monroe High School, with an important announcement:

A heartfelt thank you to everyone for your participation and hard work during our virtual days last week! Your dedication and resilience are truly appreciated.

This week, we are excited to have five full school days, and we are eager to maximize instructional time with our students. Parents, if your child is healthy, we ask for your partnership in encouraging them to attend school every day, on time, whether they ride the bus, drive, or are dropped off. If a student has an appointment, attending even part of the school day instead of missing the entire day is still a win!

Time is moving quickly! The end of the third nine weeks is on March 6th. Just as in athletics, where the fourth quarter is the time to push hard and finish strong, we want to instill that same mindset in our students. Parents, please join us in encouraging our students to stay focused, give their best effort, and finish strong as we close out the third quarter and begin the fourth.

Additionally, if your student is failing a class required for graduation, be on the lookout for a message from Mr. Brousse regarding Summer School. It is critical that students work diligently to pass their courses to avoid the need for Summer School.

Reminders:

After-school tutoring is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Some students have been invited to attend, but if your child was not invited and would like to participate, please contact Mrs. Young (Assistant Principal).

Rising juniors and seniors interested in earning college credit through JM's virtual Governor's School, please listen up! Students with a 3.2 GPA or higher are invited to attend an informational session on Monday at 1:15 PM. Check in with your fourth-period teacher and then join Mr. Brousse and Dr. Robinson of the A. Linwood Holton Governor's School in the lecture hall. All Yellow Jacket parents and family members are also invited to an informational session at 5:00 PM on Monday in the JM lecture hall.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at the school.

One Community, One JM! Go Jackets!
