Principal Petty's Weekly Update: 02/17/2025

Good evening,

This is Marcus Petty, Principal of James Monroe High School, with an important message:

This year's African American Read-In Chain will be held February 26. To celebrate Black History Month, we invite students to explore and express the meaning of "home" through poetry.

Save the date, on February 27, we will host the Pathways to Success event. All are welcome to attend. Please review the flyer attached to the email portion of this alert for more information. JMHS CTE Pathway to Success Night.png

FCPS is closely monitoring this week’s weather. If inclement weather requires remote learning days, students will need to log in to their classes virtually. Attached to the email portion of this alert is the daily schedule in case we need to attend school remotely.

  •  Students will participate in Synchronous and Asynchronous Learning

  •  Students will log in to classes using the schedule attached to receive instruction and further information from their teachers regarding assignments. Virtual Learning Day Bell Schedule.docx

  •  Teachers will send class invitation links to all students (Teams, Canvass, Parent Square).

  •  All students are expected to log in to all classes to receive instruction, complete assignments, and will have the opportunity to receive support and assistance from their teachers.

Lastly, JM Athletics have been busy in the last few weeks, and I am happy to report on some outstanding student athletes and teams.

  •  Congratulations to the swim team for advancing to the Class 3 State Meet on Friday, February 21 at Christiansburg Aquatic Center near Roanoke.

  •  Good luck to the Indoor Track Team as they compete this Saturday in the Region 3B Meet at Woodberry Forest.

  •  The Boys Basketball Team will be celebrating its senior night on Tuesday February 18 vs. Spotsylvania. JV will start at 5pm, with Varsity to follow. The boys have also qualified for the regional tournament and will play on Friday night Feb 21

  •  The Girls Basketball Team completed a 20-0 perfect regular season on Friday night with a win over King George. The girls were crowned Battlefield District Champions and will start regional play on Friday Feb 21 at home with a 6:00pm game.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us here at the school.
