Weekly Principal Message - 2 Nov 2025

Good afternoon, Patriots,

This is an important message from Dr. Brenda Russ, Principal of Hugh Mercer Elementary School. We had a great turnout for our Fall Math and Literacy Night last week. Thank you to all of you who came out to support this evening of learning and fun.

Our 2nd graders learned to identify the geographic location and resources of Indigenous people (past and present). Our 4th graders were able to explain the reasons for relocating Virginia’s capital from Jamestown to Williamsburg. We look forward to week full of learning and growing.

Additional Information:

As we move through the school year together, we want to remind you that our community has a variety of local resources available to support families in many ways. You can find a list of helpful community organizations and services including food, housing, and family support on our division website at www.fxbgschools.us/page/local-resources-to-know. Our schools are more than classrooms. We’re a caring community, and we’re here to help however we can. If you or someone you know could use a little extra support, please take a moment to explore the link, included in my email, or reach out to your school counselor or family liaison. Together, we can continue to take care of one another and make Fredericksburg City Schools a place where every child and family thrives!

Today and always, Go Patriots! 💚💛
