weekly principal message - 5 oct 2025

Good afternoon, Gladys West Families,

I hope you were able to enjoy the beautiful fall weather this weekend. We are looking forward to a full and exciting week of learning and activities here at Gladys West Elementary.

October is Bullying Prevention Month

Throughout the month of October, we will focus on kindness, inclusion, and standing up for one another. Students are encouraged to participate in our Anti-Bullying Poster Contest, and a flyer with details was sent home in Friday folders.

Each Wednesday this month, we will celebrate with a special Spirit Day to promote unity and school pride:

  • October 8: Hat Day

  • October 15: Shine Bright Day (wear your brightest and sparkliest outfit)

  • October 22: Orange Out for Unity Day

  • October 29: Wear Green and Black or GWES Swag

Students will also share what unity means to them by adding a leaf to our GWES Unity Tree in the cafeteria. In addition, our school counselors will lead lessons that help students recognize bullying, understand what to do if they experience it, and learn how we can all contribute to a bully-free school community.

Kindergarten VALLSS Testing

Our Kindergarten students will begin VALLSS testing this week. Please ensure your child arrives to school on time and is present each day so we can complete testing for all students. Thank you for your support in helping our youngest learners shine.

Upcoming Events

Join us on Wednesday, October 8, for the FCPS Elementary Instrument Petting Zoo from 6:00 to 7:30 PM right here at Gladys West Elementary.

While visiting the Instrument Petting Zoo, stop in and join the PTA meeting, which will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 PM in the library. If you are unable to attend in person, please join us virtually at meet.google.com/qnq-usnh-xut.
