Ms. Sarah Cook moved to Fredericksburg in high school and graduated with the James Monroe High School Class of 1984. She went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree from Virginia State University and her Master's Degree from Marymount University. In 2011, she completed her Math Specialist endorsement from the University of Virginia, and in 2024, she earned her Educational Leadership endorsement from Longwood University. Ms. Cook began her education career as a paraprofessional at Walker-Grant Middle School in its first Alternative Classroom. After completing her Master's, she taught Home Economics, Journalism, 4th Grade, and 5th Grade. She then served as a math coach for 16 years before becoming an assistant principal.
Ms. Cook became an educator to make a lasting on students' lives. Early in her career as a paraprofessional, she witnessed the transformative power of education in helping students overcome challenges, and she knew she wanted to contribute to that journey.
"I chose Fredericksburg because of its rich sense of community and commitment to education," said Ms. Cook. "The city has a strong tradition of valuing academic excellence and diversity, which aligns perfectly with my educational philosophy. I’m excited to continue contributing to the growth and success of students here."
In her free time, Ms. Cook enjoys spending time with family and friends, dancing, and cooking or eating out—steamed crabs are her favorite!
